BMW Motorcycles of Utah Adds Renn To The Team

The newish dealer in the SLC is BMW Motorcycles of Utah in Sandy. They opened their doors last spring. I would have liked to buy my F 800 GS from them, but instead chose to go with the other BMW dealer in North Salt Lake, because of one thing, they had Renn Charlesworth. Follow Bart’s Death Valley Trip

Bartman took off from St. George, Utah, this morning on a Death Valley dualsport moto trip. Although I haven’t seen any photos yet, he forwarded me this link from his SPOT GPS Tracking System. Pretty cool that you can follow up-to-the-minute progress of the route in realtime. Hopefully Bart will send some photos from the trails. I was hoping to be on this trip, but couldn’t break away from work. Man, the moto is calling in a big way. This is what happens during ski season when the sun is out and the snow is getting thin. At least until the next big dump of fresh powder, I will have moto brain.

Brammo Wants To Shock Barack

Ok, I admit, when I read stuff about Alex Bogusky or his agency CP&B in advertising trade rags, usually I roll my eyes. Too much fawning over these guys. Too many creatives who I have worked with who think of CP&B’s fortress in Boulder as Mount Parnassus. But I’m thirsty, and there it is, a cup of the CP&B Koolaid is right in front of me. Alex B is a road bike rider and a moto head, that makes him ok, right? After checking out Alex’s posterous about a Colorado dualsport moto trip that he and his buddies did on KTMs (they went over some of the same passes we did on our recent dualsport trip), I became a subscriber to his posterous blog. CP&B has been killing it on two wheels lately; they recently became agency of record for Buell, and then I stumbled on this little adventure they are promoting for Brammo, an electric motorcycle company. Travel the same route the bloated Detroit auto executives took when they went to the White House (presumably, the route they took the second time, because the first time they went in corporate jets and were publicly sent home) to ask for billions of dollars of bailout money to keep making the same crappy cars. Follow this adventure while the two founders of Brammo travel to the White House, bumming charges for their bikes along the way. It doesn’t sound like they have the endgame figured out, but maybe it’s not the destination that is quite as important as the going part. You can also follow them on twitter: @shockingbarack.

Russian Sidecars

A colleague of mine at Welikesmall is thinking about buying one of these Russian made motorcycles, complete with sidecar and two-wheel drive. Let me clarify, that Matt has his own company, Team13, and specializes in integrated video and content production, mostly for the web. He thinks it would be cool to throw his ski gear in the sidecar and use it to get up and down LLC for ski days at Snowbird. He’s going to Denver this weekend to check one out, and may return from his trip with a used one.

SLC T-Bird Interview

There are a lot of lean mean pro cyclists in town getting ready to contest the 2009 edition of the Tour of Utah. Some of the best climbers have gathered for this year’s race, including Dave Zabriskie, who had a great ride in this year’s Tour de France. Another local rider who is likely to bust out a big stick and wield it mightily on the epic climbing stages is Utah’s homegrown homie Burke Swindlehurst, or @slctbird on Twitter. We bumped into T-Bird on a ride up Millcreek Canyon, and conducted the following 1 question interview, a format pioneered by Dave Z.

Looks like my buddy Joe is up to a new project. If you haven’t read Dog In A Hat yet, get on it. Should be required reading for anyone who follows modern cycling. Visit Joe’s latest blog, 6 Years In a Rain Cape, and maybe ask him a question. His head is full of all kinds of knowledge type stuff. I had to post a comment and disagree about whether or not the Tour has been boring thus far. I want to see Lance and Contador fight it out. It hasn’t happened yet. Never mind the fact that their jobs are to win the race, not entertain us, but I miss the drama. Here’s a question for Joe: while riding the Tour, did Alexi Grewal really refer to Bernard Hinault in the French media as “The Gerbil?” Note to readers: back then Bernard Hinault was Michael Jordan to the French, and his nickname was the Badger. Waiting for your answer.

“…Day 2 in Mongolia a success. Riding across grassy plains is totally weird but very cool. Saw a large temple complex and also rode to the top of a mountain where we saw trees for the first time since we have been here. Riding sand dunes and camels on the agenda today!”

Doug L. from Bend, Oregon passed on a link and some info about a memorial website set up to remember the life of Steve Larsen. If you ever met the guy, watched him race, took pictures of him crushing it in the hills of Deer Valley, you can post thoughts, well wishes, and even upload photos. You can also make a donation to the family. Steve left behind 5 small children. Just thinking about this cracks me to the core. Help his wife out with a small donation, a little bit goes a long way. And if you have any thoughts or photos, these are for the kids to someday read and have a sense of how many people knew Steve through his passion of cycling, running, triathlons, etc.
