White Rim Report

20 May 2009, written by 0 Comments

On Mother’s Day weekend, a few of the IAATB crew trailered bikes down to Moab for a quick spin around the White Rim. As I wait for a report from Dave Fields, who had previously committed to putting his journalism cap back on for a day, here is a photo from Darth Nater, with iconic imagery of the new BMW F800 GS juxtaposed against a classic Utah redrock vista. Makes me wish I had gone on this trip! Come on Dave, this is your chance to enter the world of blogging. Write us a story.

What’s Wrong With Honda

I don’t get it. The new Honda Transalp 700 is all over Europe, and nowhere to be found in the U.S. Although it looks a little more styled for the road, I think when you see the video below, it handles the offroad just fine. Let’s talk about Honda for a minute: please don’t call the XR650L a dualsport bike. With a 2.6 gallons (corrected) tank, it’s not going to take you very far, and unless you want to do adventure rides with a giant backpack, this bike looks fine if you want to buzz around ranch roads, not much else. Yes, they say it has a baja-certified big thumper motor, but I still wouldn’t call it a dualsport bike. I think Honda needs to bring the Transalp to the U.S.

Spring Dualsport Ride in Hood River

Gary Huck, our Oregon correspondent sent this photo in of a spring ride in the Hood River, Oregon area. Gary is the proud owner of a Kawasaki KLR, fully outfitted for adventure with new Touratech aluminum boxes. Here’s his quote on his new KLR:
“The KLR is treating me well…its a little beast. Nothing sexy about it but will take me anywhere I want to go. All utility.”
Thanks for the moto photo, Gary. We’re looking forward to a trip from Utah where our posse can meet up with the Oregon posse sometime this summer. Note the Rainier can perched on the saddle. That’s how you know this was taken in the Pacific Northwest. Doesn’t matter where you ride, as long as there is a cold one in there somewhere.
