You say Tyres, I say Tires: TKC80’s.

Alright, Spring is almost upon us and riding season is right around the corner. I need new tires and am looking for the best price on TKC80’s. I figured others out there may be doing the same and this might be the best way to find the best price. Online tires are super discounted and many places have free shipping. I have befriended a mechanic at the local Honda dealership who is willing to mount my tires for free so this all works out great. Anyway, I thought the following info might prove useful and if anyone knows of a cheaper or better vendor or wants to add their research on a favorite tire add it in a comment This is pricing on Continental TKC 80 based on a Google search for “Discount Motorcycle Tires” as of March 3, 2009 (for my R1100GS). Sizes are 110/80 R19 for the front, and 150/70 R17  for the rear.

cheapcycleparts.com f:$92.43 r:$130.92 t:$223.35 These folks seem to have the best price but as of this posting they are out of stock on the rear tire and could not tell me when they would get it back in stock. Many of these retailers will match or beat their competitors prices. That’s all I have for now. Let me know if you find any better deals!

Double the check the price total for tiresunlimited.com !
I was ready to buy 6 pair!

I’ve tried using many of the vendors on your list, and SW Moto Tire and American Moto Tire seem to be, consistently, the two best.

With the tire shortage that was prevalent in 2008, I was forced to shop around more than usual. It was common to place an order, be told it would ship, and then find out a week later that they never had the tires in stock and were not able to get them. The entire time, I’d think they were in transit.

SW Moto and American Moto never gave me any BS. If they could not ship, they would let me know. SW does offer free shipping, but often it ends up being a few dollars cheaper buying from American and paying for shipping. Service seems to be good from both.

Rumor is that SW recently changed owners. Hopefully nothing changes.

Great research though. Thanks for the effort. Trying to keep multiple dual-sport/enduro/trailie (or whatever you want to call them) bikes shod in good rubber is a never ending task around here. Good to have your table to reference.

One last tire source (no Continental tires though) that I’ve had great service with is rockymountainatv.com
Competitive prices, web site shows inventory (and seems to be accurate), and can usually find a coupon code on the web.

They are in Utah so sales tax and tire disposal fees are charged if they ship in state. The coupon code usually will make up for that though.
Usually if I place an order in the afternoon, I’ll have it the next morning.

Also not a bad idea to keep and extra set of tires in the garage in case there is another shortage this summer.

Mike, thanks for the advice. Sully did a lot of online research, but it’s great to have some real world experience on using these different folks. I have bought some parts from SW Motech (not tires, though). Let’s hope the new owners keep it rolling. Looking forward to spring riding.
